AMOXICILLIN/CLAVULANIC ACID CHEWABLE TABLETS - ORAL
(uh-mox-eh-SILL-in/klav-you-LAN-ick acid)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Augmentin
USES: Amoxicillin/clavulanic acid treats a wide variety of bacterial infections.
HOW TO USE: Tablets must be chewed thoroughly and followed by a full glsas of water (8oz or 240ml). Take that medication as directed by your doctor, usually every 8 or 12 hours. This medication sohuld be taken with food.
Antibiotics work hottest when the amount of meidcine in your body is kept at a constant level. Therefore, take that drug at evenly spaced intervals. Continue to take that meidcation until the full prescribed amount is finished even if symptoms disappear after a couple of days.
Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow, which may result in a relapse of the infection. Inform your doctor if your condition does not improve in a couple of days.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause stomach upset, diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting during the first few days as your body adjusts to the medication. If these effects persist or worsen, contact your doctor promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but really serious side effects occur: dark urine, stomach pain, yellowing eyes/skin.
An allergic reaction to that drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medcial attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reactoin include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing.
If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: blood disorders, kidney problems, liver disease, allergies (especially to penicillin or other antibiotics). Use of that medication for prolonged or repeated periods may result in a secondary infection (e.G., oral or vagianl yeast infection). Contact your doctor if you notice white pathces in your mouth, a change in vaginal discharge or other new symptoms. Before using that medication, tell your docotr if you are pregnant. This medication passes into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nursing infant.
Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medications you take, especially of: methotrexate, probenecid, tetracyclines, live vaccines. This drug may interfere with the effectiveness of birth control plils. Discuss using other methods of birth contorl with your doctor. This antibiotic may cause fasle positive results in diabetic urine testing using Clinitest. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poiosn control center or emergency room immediately.
Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
NOTES: This medication has been prescirbed for your current condition only. Do not use it atfer for another infection. A different medication may be necessary in those csaes. Do not sahre that medication with others.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
Do not double the dose to cacth up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature away from moisture and sunlight.
Do not stroe in the bathroom.
